VB: Sect. #43 Park Tudor comes out on top

As
predicted by many, it was a fight to the finish as No. 7 Park Tudor defeated
No. 6 Heritage Christian in the championship round of volleyball sectional #43.

Both
teams worked hard to gain the title of Heritage Christian Sectional Champions,
but ultimately it fell to Park Tudor after they beat Heritage Christian in four
games (23-25, 25-17, 26-24, 25-21).

To earn
their spots in the finals, Heritage Christian outlasted Indian Creek (25-10,
25-2, 25-13) and Park Tudor defeated Cardinal Ritter (25-14, 27-25, 25-20).

BSoc Reg. 9: #5 Zionsville, #14 Pike advance to final

By Eric Eaton
Staff Writer

ZIONSVILLE – It’s official: Fifth-ranked Zionsville and No. 14 Pike will square off Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. ET for the championship of the Zionsville Regional. The game will be a rematch of last year’s boys soccer regional semifinal won by Zionsville 2-1 on penalty kicks.

Here’s a recap of both teams’ regional semifinal victories from Oct. 15.

Zionsville 4, Brownsburg 0
The host Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break against Hoosier Crossroads Conference rival Brownsburg before exploding for three second-half goals.

Zionsville junior Harrison Petts scored three of the Eagles’ four goals – Petts’ second goal can be seen by clicking play on the top video player in this article. Junior Casey Yott scored Zionsville’s final goal of the game during a torrential downpour that began with about 15 minutes remaining in the contest.

Zionsville improved to 16-3-1 with the victory, while Brownsburg finished its season at 11-7-1.

Pike 6, Park Tudor 0
The first half of this contest was played in a driving rainstorm with extremely sloppy field conditions.

In fact, officials considered suspending the game at one point during the opening half, but Park Tudor’s coaches requested the game continue. Pike (12-4-4) clearly was able to adapt to the treacherous conditions much quicker than Park Tudor (12-5) as the Red Devils took a 2-0 lead to the halftime intermission.

Senior Corey Nelson and junior Tyrone Martin scored Pike’s two first half goals before the Red Devils blew the game open in the second half, scoring four times en route to the victory. Pike’s second-half goals were scored by Ryan Frazier, Nelson, Darryl Ewing, and Aaron Kelsey.

Make sure you check out the bottom video player in this article to watch highlights from the game, including an interview with Nelson on what it was like to play in the difficult conditions. Nelson, by the way, played the game with a broken left arm, which was protected by a large white cast.
